SPECTO2024

The 8th International Conference – Multidisciplinary perspectives in the quasi-coercive treatment of offenders: Designing the future of Criminal Justice system under the lens of technology was held from 16 to 17 May 2024 in Timișoara, Romania.

SPECTO 2024 was organised by the West University of Timișoara, Romania, together with the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) and National Probation Directorate in Romania.

Conference united more than 100 experts from different European countries, both practitioners,  researchers and students in order to explore the intersections of justice, technology, and the treatment of offenders.

Conference chair was Professor Mihaela Tomita, moderators and panelists of Conference were CEP Vice-President Iuliana Carbunaru and CEP Secretary General Jana Spero. 

Key speakers of the SPECTO2024 were CEP President Annie Devos and CEP Honorary member Professor Ioan Durnescu.

CEP Board Member Daniel Danglades and former CEP President Gerry McNally were also panelists.

Conference topic was discussed under 3 different panel sessions: probation, prison and judiciary.

On 26–27 February 2026, the European Commission organised the European Judicial Training Conference “Creating a Supportive Environment for Digital Justice @2030” in Nicosia, Cyprus, under the auspices of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU and in cooperation with the Cyprus Judicial Training School.
