Dear CEP member,

We’re thrilled to announce that the Confederation of European Probation (CEP), in cooperation with the University of Glasgow (led by CEP Honorary Member Professor Fergus McNeill), and with the support of the CEP Expert Group on Research, has produced the CEP Research and Development Strategy. We are happy to share the summary with you!

After months of creativity, collaboration, and dedication, this summary marks a major milestone — capturing the core of what we do best: turning bold ideas into meaningful progress.

The aim of the Research and Development Project has been to enable CEP to improve the scale, effectiveness, and quality of its engagement with research and knowledge exchange activities, in support of CEP’s mission — especially in relation to the professionalization and promotion of probation.

This summary of the CEP Research and Development Strategy is more than just a document; it presents a clear and inspiring vision for our future work in the field of probation research. The recommendations — including priority areas — reflect the outcomes of a thorough process involving literature review, surveys, focus groups, and collaborative discussions.

CEP remains committed to connecting practitioners and researchers, strengthening our community through shared knowledge and innovation. Our goal is to support our members and help build safer, more resilient societies across Europe.
