Japanese delegation visited CEP office
On October 30, 2023, colleagues from Japan visited the CEP office in Utrecht with the dual objective of getting to know CEP, its staff, and touring the office, as well as reinforcing their cooperation since UNAFEI (United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders) is an affiliate member of CEP.
The Japanese delegation consisted of Ms. HIDAKA Mashiro, an official from the Rehabilitation Bureau, Mr. TANAKA Naoki, a professor at UNAFEI, and Mr. WATANABE Hiroyuki, Deputy Director of the General Affairs Division within the Rehabilitation Bureau.
Japan had the honour of hosting the 3rd World Congress on Probation in Tokyo in September 2017. In September 2022, CEP and UNAFEI signed an Affiliation Agreement to further expand and strengthen their cooperation.
During the visit, the CEP Secretary General presented the work of CEP, and the Japanese colleagues shared insights into the current situation in Japan concerning their work with offenders in the community. Discussions covered various aspects, including the role of volunteers in the probation field in Japan. CEP introduced the Erasmus+ CoPPer Project, emphasizing its relevance in the context of European volunteers.

Recap: Workshop on Caseload and Workload

On 27 and 28 May 2026, Bucharest hosted the CEP Workshop on Caseload and Workload: Supporting Sustainable Probation Through the Human Dimension. With 40 participants representing 18 European jurisdictions, as well as delegates from South Korea, the workshop offered opportunities to exchange knowledge and develop strategies to manage the increasing caseload and workload in probation. Designed as an interactive space, it provided participants – practitioners, managers, researchers and experts – with reflections on current pressures within probation services and it explored practical, evidence‑informed solutions from across Europe.

Recap: Expert group on Caseload and Workload

On Tuesday 26 May 2026 CEP Expert Group on Caseload and Workload gathered in Bucharest, Romania, for its annual face-to-face meeting, held ahead of the Workshop on Caseload and Workload: Supporting Sustainable Probation Through the Human Dimension. Hosted by the National Probation Directorate, Ministry of Justice, Romania, the meeting was opened by the Deputy Director Diana Mustatea and CEP Secretary General Jana Špero Kamenjarin. They both stressed the importance and relevance of the topic in supporting effective and sustainable approaches to caseload and workload management, contributing to improved outcomes for both staff and service delivery.
