Conference for Directors General of Probation of CEP Member Organizations – Presentations Now Available

The 9th Conference for Directors General in the sector of probation was hosted by the French Ministry of Justice. It was a special edition as during this conference CEP celebrated its 40th anniversary!

Therefore the Abbey of Royaumont, located near Paris, was chosen as the conference venue since this is the same venue where CEP was founded in 1981.

The Conference, specifically for Directors General, policymakers, and senior managers in probation organisations, was held on 23-25 November 2021 and focused on the following key strategic issues for probation:

  • Probation in the “new normal”
  • Leadership in practice
  • Quality assurance
  • Education and Training in the future
  • Mental Health and domestic violence in probation
  • European standards in probation

EuroPris has published a new report titled From Challenges to Solutions: Mapping European Strategies on Prison Overcrowding. The report provides an overview of how prison administrations across Europe are addressing prison overcrowding and their responses to it.

The mapping exercise was conducted between April and September 2025. It is based on structured survey responses from 33 national and regional prison administrations, representing approximately 80% of EuroPris members. The findings are complemented by expert interviews and institutional input.
