Criminal Justice Crossover Training – Invitation for CEP member
There is a growing recognition in Europe that in order for criminal justice systems to effectively foster restoration, rehabilitation and reintegration for its citizens, the different components of the system need to work together. Despite this growing recognition, however, countries across Europe are facing various challenges in effectively facilitating and sustaining this cooperation – both in training their practitioners as well as in day-to-day professional practice.
The Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC), in cooperation with EuroPris, the EPTA Network, the Confederation for European Probation (CEP) and the European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ), is organizing a Criminal Justice Crossover Training for professionals from the prison probation and restorative justice fields. The aim of the training is to explore how cooperation between these three fields can be facilitated and strengthened already during the training stage of criminal justice professionals’ careers.
During the training, participants from all three sectors are invited to exchange knowledge and expertise on the following main questions:
- What are current themes and challenges that require (increased) bilateral or trilateral collaboration? And (how) could joint training programmes contribute to this cooperation?
- What are vital skills across sectors? What do the professions have in common and would joint training programmes make sense in strengthening these skills?
- What can we learn from each other in terms of training methodologies?
- How can shared trainings increase the professional mobility between the three sectors, and the interoperability between these sectors?
Participants in the training will be expected to actively participate in workshops and group discussions. In addition, participants will be invited to think about possible pathways for development for their own organization and broader criminal justice system back home.
