Recap: Expert Group on Communication and Awareness-Raising
On 9–10 June 2025, Prague hosted the very first meeting of the Expert Group on Communication and Awareness-Raising. This group was established following the discussions and outcomes of the 2024 Workshop on Working with Communities and Awareness-Raising, also held in Prague.
The meeting brought together communication specialists and probation practitioners engaged in communication-related work across various countries. It provided a valuable platform to exchange experience, share national approaches and strategies, and present projects and initiatives that enhance communication and promote awareness about probation. Participants also shared practical tools and techniques that have proven effective in their contexts.
In addition to these exchanges, the group discussed future priorities and reached agreement on a work plan for the period 2025–2027. A new chair for the expert group is Michael Baker, Chief Officer for Research and Communications at Interventions Alliance.
And lastly, the group proudly participated in the Yellow Ribbon Run in Prague – a public event that raises awareness about second chances and supports the reintegration of people in conflict with the law.
The report will be available soon.

Nelson Mandela Day reminds us that justice is not only about accountability – it is also about hope. Mandela believed in the dignity of every person and in the possibility of change. These principles are at the heart of probation.
Across Europe, probation professionals work every day to support people in taking responsibility for their actions, rebuilding their lives and successfully reintegrating into their communities. By promoting rehabilitation, social inclusion and human dignity, probation helps reduce reoffending and contributes to safer, more resilient societies.
