Marc Cerón i Riera appointed as new Director General of the Centre for Legal Studies and Judicial Training, Catalonia – Spain

On 19th March 2025 Marc Cerón i Riera was appointed as the new Director General of the Centre for Legal Studies and Judicial Training (CEJFE), an autonomous body linked to the Catalan Ministry of Justice and Democratic Quality, Catalonia – Spain. CEJFE is one of the CEP long-standing partners and over the years a variety of outstanding events have taken place there regularly, and will continue taking place, such as the Criminal Justice Summer Course, the International School on Core Correctional Skills, Workshops on topics such as Gender-based Violence, Mental Health, Radicalization, Transition from Prison to Probation, Juveniles, among others.

Marc Cerón i Riera, after more than thirty years of experience at the Catalan Ministry of Justice in several different positions one of which as the Deputy Director of Probation and after six more years at the Centre for Legal Studies and Judicial Training, first as the Head of the Research and Training Area in Criminal Justice and, later, as the Deputy Director of Training and Research, he has been appointed as the new Director General of the Centre for Legal Studies and Judicial Training (CEJFE).

The CEJFE has the mission of promoting learning, research and knowledge of all professionals in the field of justice to contribute to their growth and their capacity to respond to the needs of a society in permanent change.

Besides his local experience, Marc Cerón i Riera, has made an exceptional contribution to the objectives and work of CEP and to the development of community sanctions and measures in Europe, and beyond.

CEP has a long tradition of high-yielding international cooperation with his memorable role as CEP Board member, CEP President and current CEP Honorary member. He is also member of the CEP expert network on Education and Training, member of the CEP expert group on Research. He also has been recently appointed as member of the coordination committee of EPTA (European Prison Training Academy).

Marc Cerón i Riera shared an open message for all local and international partners. He would like to convey the intention of the CEJFE to keep the doors open to continue addressing all those issues that are appropriate and beneficial for the growth of training, learning, knowledge, and research in the field of justice. He thanks all partners for the past collaborations while being convinced of the benefits of continuing with the working relationship and future collaborations.

It is a global reminder, recognised by UNESCO and the wider international community, of the urgent need to prevent violence, support those affected by it, and strengthen collective action. The day also opens the 16 Days of Activism, a worldwide campaign that calls for sustained engagement to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

CEP at 15th PC-CP Plenary meeting

From 18-20 November 2025, 15th Plenary Meeting of the Council for Penological Co-operation took part in Council of Europe, Strasbourg. new CEP report ‘The European survey of probation staff’s stress and morale’ provides insight into workload, morale and organisational care

CEP has released the first cross-European study examining stress, burnout, and morale among probation staff. The report was produced by Professor Charlie Brooker, Professor Karen Tocque, Professor Ioan Durnescu and Liliana Lupsica, whose combined expertise in public health, criminology, and organisational analysis provides an important contribution to our understanding of well-being in probation work.
