European Day for Victims of Crime
Yesterday, 22 February, marked the European Day for Victims of Crime.
At CEP, we recognise that crime causes harm to individuals and communities. Probation work focuses on accountability, rehabilitation and reducing reoffending, contributing to the prevention of further victimisation.
Across Europe, efforts continue to strengthen support for victims. The 116 006 victims’ helpline is already operational in several EU countries, offering free and confidential support, with work ongoing to make it available across all member states.
Through the Criminal Justice Platform Europe, CEP works together with EuroPris and the European Forum for Restorative Justice to strengthen cooperation and exchange knowledge across the criminal justice field, including on matters related to victims’ rights and restorative justice. Strengthening professional practice also means paying attention to gender specific realities in criminal justice, including the fact that many women in the system have experienced victimisation.
In this context, we are pleased to share that the CJPE Summer Course 2026, titled “She Matters: Gender specific approaches to Women in Criminal Justice Settings”, will take place from 7 to 10 July 2026 in Barcelona at the Centre for Legal Studies and Specialised Training.
