CEP at Eurocrim 2024: Criminology goes East

The 24th Annual ESC Conference in Bucharest, Romania, from 11 to 14 September 2024, saw active participation from CEP members. Vice-President Iuliana Carbunaru represented CEP, with Ioan Durnescu and Anna Matczak contributing as panelists.

Ioan Durnescu led a session as one of the authord of “The Routledge Handbook on Global Community Corrections,” and led the Meet the Critics session with co-authors. This session highlighted community corrections and global perspectives on probation practices. Additionally, he spoke in a plenary session on “Post-prison trajectories among Roma women”, shedding light on the challenges faced by this marginalized group in reintegrating after incarceration .

Anna Matczak contributed to a session titled “Impossibilities of restorative justice in a time of war(s)” which explored the complexities and limits of restorative justice during conflict situations. Her focus was on how the war context affects the application of restorative justice, and she drew on examples from the European Forum for Restorative Justice .
