The Restoration of Normality – Mirroring the Past in the Future – Presentations Now Available!
From 11th until 13th October CEP, together with the Czech Probation and Mediation Service, organized the international conference “The Restoration of Normality – Mirroring the Past in the Future” in Prague.
Participants from 19 different countries came together to listen to the high-level plenary presentations and to share experiences in the workshop sessions. Conference themes were (among others) domestic violence, restorative justice, social support for ex-offenders, education & training and building up a probation service. Also two lively Round Table sessions took place. In the first one professor Ioan Durnescu (Romania) and professor Tim Chapman (Northern Ireland) interviewed four young probation workers about the chances and challenges in their work, and in the second one the two young ladies Iuliana Carbunaru and Mirka Jakesova spoke with four senior probation professionals (Leo Tigges, Kevin Barry, Pavel Stern and Tim Chapman) about their views on the past, the present and the future of several probation topics.
The atmosphere during the conference was excellent, and it was clear that people very much enjoyed seeing each other face to face again.

Recap: Expert Group meeting on Violent Extremism

On 12–13 March 2026, the Expert Group on Violent Extremism convened for an in‑person meeting in Bucharest, Romania. Hosted at the University of Bucharest, the meeting brought together practitioners and representatives from across Europe to finalise the overview of best practices for preventive interventions targeting juveniles and young adults up to the age of 26 under probation. Building on the extensive discussions and progress made in 2025, the group worked collaboratively to bring the document to completion.
