Building Ecosystems of Change: Insights from the Correctional Research Symposium 2025

CEP representatives, Ms. Jana Špero Kamenjarin and Ms. Mirka Jakesova, attended the Correctional Research Symposium 2025 (CRS 2025) which took place from 13 to 15 May 2025 at the ICC Belfast, Northern Ireland. Hosted by the Northern Ireland Prison Service in collaboration with the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) and EuroPris, this biennial event brought together professionals from across the globe to explore the theme “From Individual to Ecosystem: Sharing Research that Matters for Corrections”.

The Correctional Research Symposium 2025 served as a dynamic forum for professionals to exchange research insights, address pressing challenges, and develop forward-thinking solutions in the corrections field. Central to the symposium’s message was the recognition that effective rehabilitation and reintegration require more than individual interventions—they depend on a holistic, system-wide approach. By exploring the complex interplay between personal, relational, community, and institutional factors, the event underscored that sustainable change can only occur within a supportive ecosystem that includes families, communities, service providers, and broader societal structures.
