International and critical perspectives on Electronic Monitoring

Routledge has published a book on Electronic Monitoring (EM), edited by Mike Nellis, Kristel Beyens and Dan Kaminski, who are also connected to CEP’s conference on EM.

Book Electronically Monitored Title of the collection of articles is: Electronically Monitored Punishment. International and Critical Perspectives. The book aims to provide academics, policy audiences and practitioners with the intellectual resources to understand and address the challenges which EM poses. The chapters deal with issues regarding privatisation, evaluation, offender perspectives and ethics, in order to extend the body of research and theories currently available on EM.

Meet Ruth Armstrong, CEP’s new Research Policy Officer

In early July 2026, Ruth Armstrong joined CEP as a Research Policy Officer. This is a new part-time role supporting the implementation of CEP’s Research and Development Strategy. Working with the Secretary General and the Expert Group on Research, Ruth will coordinate CEP’s research activities, exploring and building partnerships in research between academics and practitioners across Probation in Europe where members access, question and use evidence in their everyday work.

From 7 to 10 July 2026, more than 60 criminal justice professionals from across Europe and beyond gathered in Barcelona for the 8th Criminal Justice Platform Europe (CJPE) Summer Course, hosted by the Centre for Legal Studies and Specialised Training (CEJFE) of the Government of Catalonia. Bringing together professionals from probation, restorative justice and prisons, the Summer Course once again demonstrated the unique value of cross-sector learning, international cooperation and professional exchange.

The European Commission has launched a new call for proposals to support transnational projects in the fields of e-Justice, victims’ rights, and procedural rights.

With a total budget of €9.4 million, the call aims to fund projects that contribute to the digitalisation and effectiveness of justice systems, strengthen the protection of victims, and promote access to justice and judicial cooperation across Europe.
