International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls
Today, 25 November, marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. It is a global reminder, recognised by UNESCO and the wider international community, of the urgent need to prevent violence, support those affected by it, and strengthen collective action. The day also opens the 16 Days of Activism, a worldwide campaign that calls for sustained engagement to end all forms of violence against women and girls.

This message resonates strongly with the discussions at the recent CEP Conference on Gender Based Violence in Probation held on 15 and 16 October. The event brought together professionals from across Europe who emphasised the same priorities highlighted today: coordinated responses, evidence informed and trauma informed practice, and ensuring that justice and community services can play an effective role in prevention, intervention, and the protection of survivors.
This work continues throughout the year through the CEP Expert Group on Gender-Based Violence, a platform where representatives from European probation organisations collaborate, exchange knowledge, and strengthen shared approaches to tackling gender based violence. The group plays an essential role in supporting member organisations, developing guidance, and ensuring that probation services remain at the forefront of efforts to reduce violence and promote safer communities.
As we observe this important day, we reaffirm CEP’s commitment to contributing to a Europe where women and girls can live free from all forms of violence through our conferences, expert groups, and ongoing collaboration.

Recap: CEP Expert Group on Mental Health in Probation Meets

On 8–9 April 2026, the Expert Group on Mental Health in Probation convened in Dublin, Ireland, hosted by the Irish Probation Service. The meeting brought together 7 expert members from 7 European jurisdictions, Portugal, Ireland, Türkiye, Germany, Poland, Northern Ireland, England and Spain (Catalonia), alongside distinguished external speakers from international and academic institutions.
Chaired by Ana Cristina Neves, Head of Service at the Directorate-General of Reintegration and Prison Services (DGRSP), Portugal, the meeting provided a focused and collaborative space to reflect on the group’s progress, consolidate key outputs, and define strategic priorities for the upcoming 2026–2028 mandate.
