CEP presents “Alternatives to Detention” before French Parliament’s Law Commission
On May 2nd, 2023, CEP President, Annie Devos, and its Secretary General, Jana Spero, had the opportunity to present the CEP’s work on “Alternatives to Detention” before the Law Commission of the French Parliament. During the presentation, they highlighted the statistics from the CoE SPACE and the EU Commission Recommendation on procedural rights for suspects and accused persons subjected to pre-trial detention.

The presentation focused on the alternatives to imprisonment that are currently used in Europe, including the purpose of probation. However, they also emphasized the importance of resisting mass supervision, as it can be counterproductive in the rehabilitation process. The CEP’s presentation was a step towards promoting alternative forms of punishment and rehabilitation across Europe.
